The Story
We have been involved in setting up the Singapore Grand Prix in recent years. The five-kilometre street circuit takes in some of the city’s most famous sites, including the National Gallery, the Esplanade, the Singapore Flyer and the iconic Merlion that spouts water into the mouth of the Singapore river. As a night race, another level of complexity is added, and it all morphs into a unique race experience.
We have taken the lead in providing professional services on technical design, customised fabrication and on-site build-up of temporary infrastructure, such as seating galleries, marquees, viewing platforms and branding structures around the circuit. We analyse the project requirements to implement a robust phase-by-phase work plan to define the work specifics, priorities and quality assurance plan in line with the master work plan of the SGP, in order to ensure a smooth end-to-end operational flow for all stakeholders.
We worked closely with the client to understand the requirements of the companies and individuals who own and operate properties in the downtown area. It then aims to ensure a positive experience for them in the lead-up to the race, during the event and when we reach the dismantling stage post-race.
All the work is done to a precise schedule. There are fixed deadlines, budget constraints and regulatory requirements to follow. Since on-site work is held in public locations, including both private and state properties, nothing is left to chance. We try to achieve both quality and safety standards for the temporary event infrastructure during the 14 weeks of high-tempo planning and construction.
Things always move quickly in the lead-up to and during the Singapore Grand Prix. Ultimately, when the event runs smoothly, and there are no incidents, there is a huge sense of relief as well as a sense of achievement. Kin’s long involvement in the race is something we at Kin are all proud of.
